Nigel and Dave really got stuck into Trench 9 today, excavating the soil layer identfied as dating between the 12th and 13th century. As well as extracting more pottery fragments they also sampled 40ltrs of soil for the purpose of archaeobotanical analysis, whichmay reveal what was being grown at the site in the past.

Over in Trench 14, the majority of rubble has been removed, exposing the foundations and a possible foundation cut. Along with this glazed roof tile fragments have been uncovered indicating the chapels roof was once pretty colourful.
